A warm welcome to our new team members
Each month, we like to welcome our newest members across the Scot JCB Group and get to know them a bit more. This month, we had an amazing nine new members join the company. From our head office in Glasgow to Remote field engineers:
Dan Wallace - Parts Sales Advisor - Glenrothes
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
I was a Parts advisor at another Agri dealer, Netherton tractors, which supplies John Deere
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
I wanted to progress my career further
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I'm looking forward to learning all about JCB products and meeting new customers
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
Weirdly enough I wanted to be a bus driver
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
Gordon Ramsay, Henrik Larsson and Paolo Nutini
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
I’m a qualified chef to trade!
Shannon Young - HR Advisor - Glasgow
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
Before Joining Scot JCB, I worked as a purser onboard a superyacht in Monaco.
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
Having been the only person working within an HR role in my previous jobs I was very keen to move to a bigger company where I would have the chance to be part of a great team who I could learn from and bounce ideas off without sacrificing the family values that the smaller teams I’d worked for had – Scot JCB fit that mould perfectly.
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I am looking forward to getting out and about, visiting depots, and working with people across various departments – doing my best to make a positive impact wherever I can.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
When I’m not at work, I like to keep busy – whether it’s talking to my dogs on long walks, skiing in the winter, doing DIY projects, or volunteering for my Uganda-based charity.
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
My dream job when I was a kid was to be the next Indiana Jones.
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
I’d love to have one more dinner with my grandad because he was always my inspiration growing up and there are so many things I wish I could ask him now that I’m older. It would also be cool to have dinner with Rick Stein (because the food would be class) and David Attenborough.
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
When I was 11, I became the youngest girl in the UK to ever get a black belt in Shotokan karate.
Chris Powell - Field Service Engineer - Remote
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
Before starting at Scots I was a workshop supervisor at Morris Leslie Burgess Hill Depot.
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
I was attracted by the great training opportunities while working for a well-known and leading manufacturer. Machines are changing so quickly, and I didn't want to be left behind.
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I'm most looking forward to working On the latest equipment and learning everything about them.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
When I'm not at work I like going carp fishing and tinkering with cars and going out to play pool or snooker.
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
When I was younger, I just wanted to do something with my hands. Wasn't one for sitting inside.
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
My three ideal dinner guests would have to be Bob Marley, Bobby Moore and Colin McRae.
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
A fact is that I've been in the plant since 15 years old and I've never had a job that doesn't involve plant maintenance.
Ben Duncan - Service Engineer - SPS Glasgow
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
I worked for ab2k doing contract crushing & maintenance of the machines then moved to Breedon and did the same there.
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
I wanted to join JCB/ SPS because they offer great opportunities to learn new skills and be on the move (I enjoy working all over the country).
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I'm looking forward to working in a new environment and building my skills further.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
When I'm not at work, I'm really into motocross and track days. If I'm not doing that, I'll be tinkering with things in my garage.
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
When I was younger I wanted to be a farmer.
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
My 3 ideal dinner guests would be Guy Martin, Jeremy Clarkson, Frankie Boyle
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
Everyone thought I'd become a chef when I was younger.
Jess Taylor - Parts Sales Advisor - Alnwick
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
I was a Bartender and a Mart workhand
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
It was something I’d never done before, and I wanted a change/challenge from what I was already doing.
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
Learning new things and developing an understanding of how this industry works
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
I like to take my dog to the beach and spend time with friends
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
I wanted to be a vet
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
David Attenborough, Jack Whitehall, and Michael Caine
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
I am a volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew member for Craster Lifeboat Station
Mark Metcalfe - Service Engineer - Carlisle
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
I worked for quattro plant hire as an RRV plant mechanic
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
I was attracted to come to work for Scot JCB for a new challenge and a change from plant hire to a dealership
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I am looking forward most to new opportunities and challenges in my working career
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
Outside of work, I enjoy helping out on our family farm and going on walks and socialising
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
my dream job when I was younger was to be a race car driver
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
my 3 ideal dinner guests would be Jeremy Clarkson, Guy martin and Jimmy Carr
Jordan Leith - Service Engineer - Edinburgh
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
I worked for Worked at Gordon Bow Plant Hire
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
I was attracted to come to work for Scot JCB for the training that cannot be given anywhere else
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I am looking forward most to learning new skills, gaining knowledge over the variety of machinery
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
Outside of work, I like to go for drives in my car and meet up with friends
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
My dream job was to be an RAF pilot
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
my 3 ideal dinner guests would be Niki Lauda, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
I can eat as much as I want and not put weight on!
Liam Murray - Yardman - Glasgow
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
I did carpentry and joinery in collage
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
What I had done in previous roles was very similar, so it made sense to me
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
Working with a variety of machinery such as forklifts and telehandlers etc
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
Spend time with my kids most of the time!
When you were younger, what was your dream job?
Anything that would be working outdoors, as soon as I left school I was always working outdoors
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
I would say, Jeremy Clarkson, Rickey Gervais, and Karl Pilkington
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
I like to listen to music from the 80s and before, the 60s, 70s, everything from those eras!
Ryan McLaughlin - Engineer - Alnwick
What did you do before joining Scot JCB?
Before I joined, I was a heavy plant fitter at Nixon hire.
What attracted you to come and work in your role?
I have always been interested in working for JCB from a young age as I have worked on the equipment all my working life.
What are you looking forward to the most in your role?
I am looking forward to having a better understanding of the machinery
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter and family and friends
Who would be your 3 ideal dinner guests, past or present?
My 3 ideal dinner guests would be my late grandparents and Roberto Duran
What's an interesting fact about you that people might not know when they first meet you?
An interesting fact about myself is that I enjoy boxing
