Craig Frank: Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024

Meet our newly qualified Apprentice Engineer Craig Frank! Craig discusses how he developed both his practical and soft skills throughout his apprenticeship, boosting his self-confidence within his role.

1. What motivated you to apply for the Scot JCB apprenticeship?

What motivated me most to apply for the Apprenticeship with Scot Jcb was the level and detail of training the company had to offer. Also from leaving school I was keen to get straight into a hands on practical job. Before Leaving school, I was always interested in machinery and how it worked, therefore when i seen the apprenticeship opportunity come up I knew it was one that couldn't be missed.

2. What skills have you learned so far within your apprenticeship?

During my apprenticeship at Scot jcb I've learnt a wide range of skills from how to diagnose issues on the machines using my own initiative and spotting faults to working and communicating with a team and even just building self-confidence from leaving school and starting a job.

3. What do you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?

During my apprenticeship I probably enjoyed the split between the hands on in the workshop and the time in Glasgow at college. Getting the chance to do both really helped to bring on my knowledge and practical skills. Also getting to run about with the engineers in the van was pretty good, getting to see how the machines get fixed on site and having a laugh with the engineer at the same time.

4. What advice would you give someone who is applying for an apprenticeship?

The advice I would give to anyone who is applying for the apprenticeship would be to stick in, don't be scared to ask questions and show as much enthusiasm as possible.
