Meet Morag Macdonald - Women in Construction Week 2024
Meet our Sales Administrator Morag Macdonald! Morag has worked for Scot JCB for 27 years and believes that although construction was once a male dominated, the industry is changing and there are opportunities for women to grow in their roles.
1. Tell us about your role at Scot JCB and what a typical day looks like?
My role is in Sales Admin, a typical day involves booking machines into and out of stock, checking delivery schedules for new machines and ordering parts and attachments as per our sales team’s orders. Our role is to assist the sales team from receipt of order to despatch of the machine to customer.
2. Why did you want to work in the construction industry?
It is a fast moving business and I like the interaction with the sales team and helping our customers. Being part of JCB supply network is something I am proud of as this is a British run family business with the brand being known and respected worldwide.
3. How does it feel being a woman working in a historically male dominated industry?
I think there needs to be a mix of male/female in any workplace and over the years I am seeing more and more women in sales and at a high level in the industry.
4. What do you think businesses could do to attract more women into the industry?
Modern businesses today understand that they have to be diverse and the more women with high profiles in the business will attract female candidates to the industry.
5. What advice would you give to women interested in a career in the construction industry?
There is definitely a place for women in this industry, it is a rewarding career. A once male dominated industry is changing and there are opportunities to grow. There are huge success stories of women who are at the helm of their businesses and are extremely successful.
